Final Mock Aggregate SuperDraft: Top half firm
In our pre-Combine aggregate mock SuperDraft, we got a glimpse at what our experts thought purely from watching them throughout the NCAA season and, for some, in international tournaments with youth national squads. The Combine, however, adds in how well these prospects stack up against their peers, what certain coaching staffs covet, and all sorts of trade chatter. As you can see, the post-Combine aggregate mock SuperDraft first round switched around a bit but the stable of first-rounders didn’t change much.
ASN Philly will be there in full force at the Draft tomorrow and we’re looking forward to it. If you haven’t already, make sure you submit your predictions on who the Union will pick tomorrow in our Pick’em Contest! Deadline is 11:59PM, tonight.
Enjoy.

1. PHILADELPHIA UNION: Danny Mwanga (Oregon State – FW) [4 x #1, AVERAGE 1.0] – [-]
With Mwanga not even at the Combine, it’s pretty clear Mwanga will stay at #1 and the Union want him. The pundits agree all across the board.
2. NEW YORK RED BULLS: Tony Tchani (Virginia – MF) [4 x #2, AVG 2.00] – [+3]
The ascendancy of Tchani pushed everyone’s pre-Combine favorite, Opara, for #2 back to three. The Red Bull still need defensive help but then again, they need midfield help as well. Tchani should be able to fill in right away. Many teams will make attempts to trade up to grab Tchani but it’ll cost a pretty penny.
3. SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES: Ike Opara (Wake Forest – DF) [3 x #3, AVERAGE 3.25] [-1]
The word out of the Combine is that Opara plans to go back to finish school which means whoever drafts him will have to wait until May to get him full-time. No worries there as San Jose’s backline need all the help they can get and Opara’s one worth waiting for.
4. KANSAS CITY WIZARDS: Teal Bunbury (Akron – FW) [3 x #4, AVG 3.75] - [-1]
No changes whatsoever to Bunbury’s position. The Wizards want him as arguably the 2nd best striker in the draft and the fact that his father (Alex Bunbury, Canadian international) used to play for the Wizards is just icing on the cake.
5. FC DALLAS: Corben Bone (Wake Forest – MF) [4 x #5, AVG 5.00] – [-1]
Bone was dropped solely because of Tchani’s superior play at the Combine but the Demon Deacon midfield is from the Dallas area so it wouldn’t be particularly surprising if the Hoops do decide to take him.
6. FC DALLAS: Zach Loyd (UNC – DF), [4 x #6, AVERAGE 6.0] [+5]
A unanimous selection here. Biggest mover so far. Proof that a productive Combine could actually get you far.
7. D.C. UNITED: Amobi Okugo (UCLA – MF), [1 x #7, 1 x #10, AVG 8.5] – [+3]
The 18-year old UCLA midfielder made a name for himself at the Combine and United – with a porous midfield right now – could be the right team to stand up and pay attention.
8. COLUMBUS CREW: Dilly Duka (Rutgers – MF), [1 x #7, 1 x #13, AVG 9.5] – [+1]
Duka has a lot of potential and if fostered correctly, he could be a huge asset in a couple seasons time. The Crew are in need of some young blood in the midfield so this could work out beautifully.
9. NEW ENGLAND REVOLUTION: Toni Stahl (UConn – MF), [1 x #7, 1 x #16, AVG 10.25] – [-2]
A bit ghostly at the Combine but Stahl made his case all season with UConn and the Revs know they have to fill a huge gap if Jeff Larentowicz decides he’s done with New England.
10. CHIVAS USA: Blair Gavin (Akron – MF), [1 x #7, 2 x #12, AVERAGE 10.25] - [+2]
A three-way tie here at 10.25 but we give Gavin the nod because he was higher in the last collective mock draft (a bit arbitrary I know).
11. SEATTLE SOUNDERS: Jack McInerney (US U-17 – MF), [1 x #8, 3 x #11, AVERAGE 10.25] – [+2]
Even with an up and down Combine, McInerney managed to improve his stock. Very few of the media members at the Combine had anything good about to say him other than the fact that he’s young. Would be good with Sigi Schmid however.
12. COLUMBUS CREW: Andre Akpan (Harvard – FW) [1 x #8, 1 x #13, AVG 11.00] - [-6]
An example of what a bad Combine can do for you, Akpan dropped the furthest. Those who raise their stock leapfrog those who simply just show up. Will Akpan go the way of last year’s Harvard draftee Michael Fucito (out the door after some time with the Sounders)?
13. CHICAGO FIRE: Zack Schilawski (Wake Forest – FW), [1 x #9, 2 x #16, AVG 13.75] – [+5]
Schilawski was consistent and consistency pays off. He went from early second round to late first round.
14. NEW YORK RED BULLS: Kwame Watson-Siriboe (UConn – DF), [2 x #13, 1 x #16 AVG 14.00] - [+2]
Cracked head and all, Watson-Siriboe – next to Opara – was the best defender at the Combine. Chicago will need defenders with Segares and Prideaux gone.
15. LOS ANGELES GALAXY: Andrew Wiedemann (California – FW), [1 x #10, 1 x #21, AVG 14.50] – [-7]
According to the press at the Combine, if you hadn’t seen Wiedemann before Fort Lauderdale, you would not expect him to be a first rounder. He was rated as second best forward on many lists early on.
16. REAL SALT LAKE: Austin da Luz (Wake Forest – FW), [1 x #14, 1 x #24, AVERAGE 17.00] – [-1]
Versatility is the name of the game here and da Luz has plenty of it. Able to operate as a winger and striker, da Luz would be a nice find for a thin RSL attacking corps.
Falling into the 2nd Round: Ofori Sarkodie (Indiana – DF), Kyle Nakazawa (UCLA – MF)
NEXT FEW: #17 Philadelphia – Michael Stephens (UCLA – MF), #18 Red Bulls – Drew Yates (Maryland – MF/DF), #19 San Jose – Ofori Sarkodie (Indiana – DF), #20 Kansas City – Kyle Nakazawa (UCLA – MF), #21 FC Dallas - Brian Perk (UCLA – GK)
Who all is making the trip out tomorrow? McGillins? Field House? Make sure you stop us and say hello.
